Common questions

How many Pokémon types are there?

There are 18 types in the main games. Fairy was the last to arrive, in X and Y. Stellar exists only as a Tera Type in Scarlet and Violet, and no Pokémon has it as a regular type.

How do dual types work?

Multiply the two results. Ice hits Dragon for 2× and Ground for 2×, so a Dragon/Ground Pokémon such as Garchomp takes 4×. If one type resists and the other is weak, the two cancel out to 1×. If either type is immune, the result is 0×.

Which type has the most weaknesses?

Grass and Rock have the most, with 5 each. Steel has the most resistances, with 10 plus an immunity to Poison.

Which types are immune to other types?

Normal is immune to Ghost. Ground is immune to Electric. Flying is immune to Ground. Ghost is immune to Normal. Ghost is immune to Fighting. Dark is immune to Psychic. Steel is immune to Poison. Fairy is immune to Dragon. Some abilities add immunities too, such as Levitate against Ground.

What Pokémon has no weaknesses?

Eelektross. It is pure Electric, so its only weakness is Ground, and its Levitate ability makes it immune to Ground. Before Fairy arrived in Gen 6, Sableye and Spiritomb also had no weaknesses.

Has the type chart ever changed?

Yes. Gen 2 added Dark and Steel and fixed several Gen 1 matchups. Gen 6 added Fairy and removed Steel’s resistance to Ghost and Dark. Pokémon GO uses the modern chart with different numbers: 1.6× instead of 2×, and no true immunities.
